Using Bladderwrack for Cellulite

Fucus vesiculosus, or bladderwrack, has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of cellulite. Bladderwrack is a form of kelp, a plant that lives in the sea. It has been used medicinally for centuries. Bladderwrack is a common cellulite treatment because it affects lipid metabolism in the body. Bladderwrack is also important in cellulite treatment because it stimulates pro‐collagen I production (fibroblasts). Bladderwrack is rich in iodine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulfur, silicon and iron and high in a few B-complex vitamins.

Creams and salves containing bladderwrack are easy to apply and effective. If you can’t find a prepared form of bladderwrack to treat cellulite, you can get the dried or fresh bladderwrack plant itself to make a poultice. Puree the bladderwrack with some water and strong coffee until it is a wet paste, place between to layers of gauze, and apply to affected areas for 10-15 minutes daily.
